Grand Island Town Engineer John Whitney received the Charles W. Nichols Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) of WNY on February 6th at their 2014 awards banquet. APWA is a group of engineers who honor their peers for exemplary work; seven project awards and three individual awards were presented. Whitney was nominated by GHD Consulting Services, Inc. who is the Town’s team for the waste water system on Grand Island. Whitney was recognized for his professional and exemplary response to the collapse of the 30” wastewater line during August 2013.
Another Islander recognized was James Panepinto from Pinto Construction who received the 2014 Project of the Year Award in Construction/Repair for his renovation of Gratwick Riverside Park Marina in North Tonawanda.
